Christian Smythe hails from Astoria, Queens, NYC and is currently in his 20th year at Talent Unlimited High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan where he teaches musicianship, voice, and acts as music director and accompanist, most recently for last season’s production of The Wiz.
Other favorite TUHS productions include Footloose, Hairspray, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors, Nine, Thoroughly Modern Millie, …Spelling Bee, …Charlie Brown, and countless cabarets and recitals. In 2015, Christian and his students were Circle in the Square “Teens on Broadway” honorees, recipients of “Special Honors” from the Gershwin Theatre Awards, and recipients of The Shubert Organization High School Theatre Award (Top Honors). As a stage performer, Christian’s favorite roles include Harry in Lucky Stiff, Angel City Four (Bass) in City of Angels, Ensemble in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Gangster 2 in The Drowsy Chaperone, Boatswain in H.M.S. Pinafore, and Hero in …Forum. He’s even made some pit appearances as Oboe/English horn player and is a regular member of the St. Bart’s Park Avenue Choir. Mr. Smythe holds a B.S. in Music Education from NYU and a M.F.A. in Vocal Performance from Hunter College. He is thrilled to be working at NEMC for the first time!
